Elina
Elina comes from Greece, born in Ukraine. Her home university is Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. She enjoys reading books, especially poetry, and she writes poems in three languages (English, Greek, Russian). Additionally, she like learning new languages, and she participates in tandem and language exchange communities learning in total three languages. She also likes meeting exciting and enthusiastic people from all around the world.
What made you choose KTH, Stockholm and Sweden?
After thorough research, my professors and I concluded that this specific Master’s programme at KTH is one the best in Europe. Moreover, the communication between students and the Institute was smooth and very well organised, providing all the information needed. Furthermore, the campus itself is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, very well preserved and organised. Finally, infrastructures are up to date and maintained at a high level of quality.
Stockholm is considered to be one of the safest cities in Europe, which immediately creates a friendly approach to the city itself. It is very clean and full of greenery. There is no need for one to travel outside the city to enjoy breath-taking landscapes and stunning views when they can experience that in multiple locations within the city. People say “a picture is worth a thousand words”, hence once you see it, you will fall in love with it!
What do you like most about KTH?
The thing that I like the most about KTH is how friendly it is towards international students. Everybody speaks in English, and almost all the information needed can be found in English as well. Besides, even if you need to ask any questions or need instructions, you will be treated in the most polite and friendly way.
What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?
I always call Stockholm “the countryside capital” because it offers all of the positive attributes of a big city (e.g. a convenient public transportation system), but at the same time it is rich in natural beauty, having countless lakes, rivers, and forests reachable even by metro.
What is your best memory from your time at KTH so far?
By far my best memory at KTH was the pre-sessional English courses during August, which not only offer a first impression of how KTH works and the way lectures are organised, but most importantly, give you the chance to meet new people, students from different countries and continents, to collaborate with them, to learn from them, to become friends with them, and to spend your most enjoyable moments with them.
Are there any differences between studying at KTH and your home university?
There are several differences when it comes to comparing KTH to AUTh. The most essential that is worth mentioning is the organisation. KTH offers high-quality education that not only includes well-presented lectures and interesting labs, but also a great organisation that helps students deal with problems outside their programmes more easily and effectively.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
If you are considering coming to KTH and to Sweden in general for your studies, stop considering and apply. You will not regret it in the least.
What do you see as the most significant aspects of your programme?
The high and diverse development and job prospects. There are plenty of companies and organisations that are more than welcome to guide you during your Master’s thesis, but also to absorb you by offering various job positions.
Are you taking part in any student activities?
Yes, I am a THS member, which gives me the right to participate in plenty activities depending on my interests. I am a member of THS Future, Flavours, AESIR, and Fysiksektionen.
Do you have a dream job after graduating from KTH?
Absolutely yes! Everything that KTH teaches you is to create and chase your dreams as crazy as they might seem. Hence, I aspire to run a nuclear power plant in Sweden as well as participate in developing nuclear fusion.
