Linnéa
Linnéa is from Sweden. Before starting her master’s in Sustainable Energy Engineering, she earned her Bachelor’s degree from KTH in Energy and Environment. When she isn’t studying energy systems, she can usually be found with her nose in a good book or listening to her favourite podcast.
Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?
Having completed my bachelor's studies at KTH, I knew that the university has a strong reputation for innovation and sustainability. I chose the Sustainable Energy Engineering programme because I wanted to bridge the gap between technical engineering and real-world environmental impact. The curriculum offers a perfect mix of theoretical depth and practical application, which is essential for tackling the climate challenges we face today. I was specifically drawn to how the programme integrates the Sustainable Development Goals into almost every aspect of our learning.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
The best aspect is definitely the opportunity to work on challenge-driven projects that have real-life applications. For example, I had the chance to participate in the “Smart and Sustainable Kigali 2030” project competition, where my group developed solutions to enhance energy sustainability in Rwanda. It was incredibly rewarding to see our theoretical knowledge applied to a real city scenario. Additionally, the international environment is fantastic – working with students from all over the world brings so many diverse perspectives to our discussions.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? Which track and why?
Yes, I chose the Energy Supply through Clean Conversion Technologies track. I have always been fascinated by the technical side of how we generate and distribute power. This track allows me to dive deep into sustainable energy conversion processes and understand how we can transition conventional energy systems to incorporate more renewable technologies. It feels very relevant to the current demands of the industry.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
I have really enjoyed Sustainable Power Generation and Renewable Energy Technology. These courses gave me a solid technical foundation. Another favourite was Energy Management. That was the course where we worked on the consulting project for Kigali. It was challenging but very fun to work in a team and present our innovative approach, and it helped me develop skills in both project management and leadership.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
My time here has been very dynamic and rewarding. Beyond my studies, I’ve tried to stay active in student life. I am currently active as a Student Representative in the Program Council, where I act as a link between the students and the management to improve our education. I also work as an administrative undergraduate assistant at KTH Sustainability Office, which keeps me updated on all the sustainability news around campus. It’s a busy schedule, but the vibrant student atmosphere and the supportive faculty make it all worthwhile.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
If you are passionate about sustainability and want an education that challenges you to think critically, KTH is the place to be. The professors are very open, and the connection to the industry is strong, which is great for your future career. Don't be afraid to get involved in student activities or organizations—it’s the best way to make friends and build a network that lasts a lifetime.
