Research Interests

Theoretical and computational modeling of biomolecular systems from a materials perspective. Specifically, this incorporates cellulose and other plant polysaccharides, their interactions with solvents, co-solvents, and inorganic particles such as clay. Currently active projects include:

  • Moisture stability in clay/biopolymer nanocomposites
  • Conformational effects on the biological function of hemicelluloses
  • Solubility of cellulose
  • Mechanical properties of the cellulose nanofibril from a molecular perspective
  • Interfaces in moist cellulose systems
