Kerstin Forsberg

Professor in Chemical Engineering applied to Natural Systems

Kerstin Forsberg is a chemical engineer with a focus on processes in natural systems. Her ambition is to conduct projects at both a fundamental and applied level, employing an engineering approach. Forsberg's research passion lies in crystallization, a subject of significant importance for both natural and industrial processes. She primarily applies her knowledge to enhance the understanding of the crystallization processes of metal salts. This area of study is particularly relevant for the recycling of lithium-ion batteries or the extraction of rare earth metals from apatite concentrates or magnet materials. The objective is to obtain crystals with favorable morphology, size distribution, and purity, which necessitates a deep understanding of how crystals nucleate and grow under various conditions. Collaborating with individuals who possess complementary skills is often essential for analyzing these processes in detail or integrating them into larger processes. Forsberg is keen on collaborating with the industry and researchers worldwide to contribute to a sustainable society where scarce resources are used efficiently. Through her research, she generates and disseminates new knowledge and, most importantly, educates future engineers in the field.
