Ask Nicolás a question

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

I opted to study at KTH for several reasons. Firstly, its globally recognised reputation in engineering and technology, including its distinguished 25th rank worldwide in Material Science, assured me of a high-quality education. Secondly, I was attracted to its diverse international environment and strong global partnerships, which I believed would provide valuable perspectives and opportunities for collaboration. Lastly, KTH's strong ties with industry leaders offered promising prospects for practical experience and career development. Overall, KTH stood out as an excellent choice for pursuing my master’s degree.

What are the best aspects of your programme?

I believe what sets it apart is the practical application of theoretical knowledge to address real-world challenges, which shapes a truly unique learning experience. The notable aspects of my program include continuous feedback and the availability of dedicated educators from various backgrounds who are passionate about their field and fully committed to teaching.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?

Yes, I've chosen the "Sustainable Specialisation" track because I'm passionate about environmental conservation and believe in integrating sustainability into engineering and materials science. This track aligns with my values, allowing me to address global challenges like climate change and resource depletion. It also offers a chance to gain specialised skills that are in demand by industries aiming for sustainability. Overall, I hope to make a meaningful contribution to creating a more sustainable future.

Have you experienced any culture shock in Sweden?

Yes, I have experienced some culture shock, particularly with food preferences and adjusting to meal schedules. In Spain, lunch is typically after 2:00 PM, and dinner is around 9:00 PM, whereas here, meals are at 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Regarding food preferences, I have learned that it is common in Sweden to put bananas and curry on pizza and to eat ice cream as soon as the temperature tops 14ºC. Another shock was adjusting from Spain's sunny weather to a place with less sunlight, which has been quite an adjustment for me.

How would you describe your time at KTH so far?

My time at KTH has been incredibly enriching, presenting me with a blend of challenging yet fulfilling experiences through diverse projects, exams, and exercises. What resonated with me the most was the university's ability to strike a harmonious balance between personal and academic pursuits.
