At 98th, KTH among world’s top 100 universities

In the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking, KTH Royal Institute of Technology was ranked 98th among more than 2,000 universities worldwide.
As it stood in the 2025 ranking, KTH places higher than all but two Swedish universities in the new 2026 list . It shares 98th place globally with University of Birmingham, UK, and University of Tübingen, Germany. KTH is the 22nd highest-ranked university in the European Union.

In the previous three years, from 2025 to 2023 KTH has been ranked 95th, 97th and 155th, respectively.
Vice President for Research Annika Borgenstam says she welcomes the news that KTH maintains its place among the top 100 universities, but she emphasizes that KTH remains committed to continuous improvement.
“But rankings aren’t what motivates us,” Borgenstam says. “Rather, it is serving society and preparing students to take on the most pressing challenges of our time.
The THE overall ranking measures universities according to 17 performance indicators that gauge performance across five areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook. The scores for each varied over 2025 within a margin of 1 to 2 points.
One area where KTH’s latest scores stood out was International Outlook, where a gain of more than 7 points was awarded, based on an increase in international research co-authorship and a higher recorded proportion of international staff.
“These rankings are always interesting to review,” Borgenstam says.
“Competition is fierce, and being ranked among the top 100 enhances our ability to attract the best talent, students and staff, while also making us a more attractive partner for research collaboration.”
