I am Professor at the Department of Protein Science, CBH school. The general focus of my group´s research activities is on protein engineering technology and development of methods for directed evolution.
The principle of directed evolution is based on more or less random mutagenesis of the gene encoding the protein of interest for construction of large collections of variants, so-called combinatorial libraries. The libraries are then used in selections or high-throughput screenings for isolation of new engineered proteins with tailor-made properties.
Current research is including:
- engineering of artificial ligands for targeting angiogenesis and tissue engineering
- engineering of prodrug formats of affinity proteins and cell therapies
- development of methods for directed evolution of protease and protease substrates
- engineering of targeting agents for improved uptake into the central nervous system
- engineering of tracers for molecular imaging of cancer
- development of high-throughput screening methods for affinity proteins
