This online course consists of 4 chapters covering Acoustics and noise, Energy from Nuclear power, Fusion-fission, Tokamak, Laser fusion, Trace detection, Radioactivity, Radiation Dose, Deposit of nuclear waste etc. The course study material is split into three parts, with many solved problems and exam questions. The third part consists of two virtual lab exercises. The goals of the course, how to read the material, hints, WEB-hints, are given in each chapter.

Part 1

Chapter 1: Introduction to waves - Infrasound. Wave theory. Longitudinal and transverse waves. Harmonic waves. Particle velocity and acceleration. Wave equation. Heat transfer. Isolating materials. Problems & solutions.

Chapter 2: Sound waves - Noise. Physical models of acoustics. Sound level and the dB-scale. Infrasound. Ultrasound. Undesirable sound or noise. Preventing noise. Doppler effect and shock waves. Problems & solutions.

Part 2

Chapter 3: Electromagnetic waves. Energy flow. Solar cells. Solar parks. Radiation damage by intense light. Preventing damage. Interference effects. Electronic devices for pollution measurements. Problems & solutions.

Chapter 4: Radioactivity. Radiation dose. Safety. C14. Nuclear storage. Nuclear decay. Ionizing Radiation. Half-life. Activity and Dose. Biological effects on ionizing radiation. C-14 method. Radon. Threshold values. Nuclear bombs. Transmutation. Problems & solutions.

Appendix

Basic thermodynamics, waves and optics, atoms and molecules, nuclear physics.
