KTH maintains high rankings in key subjects

KTH’s Engineering ranking is ninth highest in Europe, and the highest among universities in Sweden.

In the latest university subject rankings from Times Higher Education, KTH placed high among the world’s top universities.

In the subjects of Engineering, Computer Science and Physical Sciences, the university’s rankings remained relatively constant. The THE World University Rankings by Subject  are based on the same five indicators as the THE World University Ranking: Research Quality, Industry, International Outlook, Research Environment and Teaching. KTH is 95th in the 2025 THE World University Ranking. 

In the subject ranking for Engineering, KTH inched up from 39th to 37th place, out of nearly 1,500 institutions in 97 countries. It shares 37th place with Johns Hopkins University, in the U.S. The Engineering subject ranking highlights the leading universities across general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering.

KTH’s Engineering ranking is ninth highest in Europe, and the highest among universities in Sweden. Worldwide, Harvard University led in this category.

For the subject, Computer Science, KTH was ranked 69th (compared to 61st in 2024) among 1,122 universities. The University of Oxford was the top ranked institution in this subject.

In Physical Sciences, KTH was ranked in the same 101-125 interval as in 2024. The physical sciences subject ranking highlights the universities leading across mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, geology, environmental, and earth and marine sciences. The category evaluated nearly 1,500 universities in 107 countries, with California Institute of Technology topping the list.
