2016-09-14: ADOPT sponsors travel to JORCEP workshop
ADOPT will sponsor joint activities with the Joint Research Center in Photonics (JORCEP) through sponsoring ADOPT scholars to travel to this year's JORCEP workshop. This time the event will take place on 10th of November in Guangzhou. A total amount of 40 kSEK is reserved for the sponsorship. Each person will get up to 10 kSEK. Those who would like to get the funding please email to Val Zwiller (firstname.lastname@example.org). First come first serve.
As every year we are planning to organize a JORCEP workshop in China. The workshop will take place in Guangzhou November 10th and is organized as a part of the largest conference in the Asia-Pacific region on optical communication, photonics and relevant technologies, ACP, November 10-13, 2017 (http://www.acpconf.org/).
JORCEP, The Joint Research Center of Photonics is a research and education collaboration between the Royal Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University and Lund University in the areas of nanophotonics, plasmonics, optical metamaterials, optical networking, biophotonics and environmental monitoring. The goal of this workshop is to report and discuss the results of ongoing research in the cooperation projects as well as to explore new areas of collaboration and propose new collaboration projects. Workshop organizers (among others): Erik Forsberg (email@example.com) from ZJU and Lech Wosinski (firstname.lastname@example.org) from KTH.
2017-09-13: Optics and Photonics in Sweden 2017 at Kista
This national conference will be held on 18-19 oktober at Electrum, Kista. The conference language is English. ADOPT’s Ph.D. students and postdocs are encouraged to attend and a maximum of 15 of Ph.D. students/postdocs will be sponsored with 1500 SEK each. First come, first served. Read more below.
Requirements: The sponsored student/postdoc must present a poster at the conference (where as usual, ADOPT and the Swedish Research Council (VR) funding should be acknowledged). The deadline for submission is Sept. 29. See the conference webpages (link below) for instructions.
Procedure: Ask your supervisor if he/she finds your participation appropriate. If so, send an e-mail to email@example.com to apply for sponsorship. Include your supervisor’s name. First come, first served.
If approved, ask your supervisor to pay your conference fee and the fee for student membership from his/her ADOPT project account. 1500 SEK will subsequently automatically be transferred back to the account. The student early bird conference fee is 1500 SEK + a 110 SEK PhotonicSweden/Swedish Optical Society membership fee to get the reduced conference price, so participation will cost your group only 110 SEK.
Ask your supervisor for her/his invoice reference (=Fakturareferens in Swedish). Mine look like GBJORK KTHSCI and your supervisor’s should look similar. Register for the conference by following the linkhttps://dinkurs.se/OPS2017ParticipantsAcademic , give the e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org as the additional address the invoice should be sent to (in the box under “Country”). Don’t forget to fill in the box “Invoice Reference” with your supervisor’s invoice reference on the conference registration page. Under payment method, chose “Other method”.

2017-04-27: IPRM Award to Prof. Sebastian Lourdudoss
Prof. Sebastian Lourdudoss at Laboratory of Semiconductor Materials, Dept. of Applied Physics will receive IPRM award for the year 2017 during Compound Semiconductor Week to be held in Berlin, Germany in May 2017. IPRM stands for Indium Phosphide and Related Materials. Instituted in 1993 originally as the prize for the best paper in the International Conference of IPRM, the criteria were revised in 1996 to recognize individuals who have made “outstanding contributions to the indium phosphide community.” The nomination committee motivates the choice of Prof. Lourdudoss for this award as: “For the development of hydride vapour phase epitaxy for fabricating discrete and integrated photonic components based on buried heterostructures and heteroepitaxy of InP on Si."
Along with his colleagues, Prof. Lourdudoss persistently developed hydride vapour phase epitaxy (HVPE) technology and demonstrated its flexibility in fabricating buried heterostructures (BHs) of different types of devices for different applications. In the initial stages, edge emitting and vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL), and later, in collaboration with American researchers, integrated photonic circuits were demonstrated for telecom/datacom applications. More recently, his team addressed mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers in collaboration with several leading European partners in a EU project. Their long term efforts to integrate III-V semiconductors on silicon for silicon photonics have attracted international attention.
2017-04-18: Seminar by PRL Editor
