KTH maintains top 100 ranking in engineering, computer science
KTH stands out as the top Swedish university for engineering and computer science in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings by Subject.
KTH was ranked 40th worldwide in engineering and 66th in computer science in the 2026 THE rankings . In physical science the university was ranked in the bracket of the world’s 101-125 best universities—a position it has held since 2023. In business and economics it landed among in the 151-175 bracket.
KTH’s rankings in engineering and computer science top the list of Swedish universities (Chalmers University ranks second highest in Sweden in both subjects).
KTH’s engineering ranking is fourth highest in the European Union. Worldwide, Harvard University was ranked first in the category. The computer science ranking is ninth highest in the EU. The global leader in that subject was University of Oxford.
The engineering ranking highlights the leading universities across general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering; mechanical and aerospace engineering; civil engineering; and chemical engineering. The computer science ranking focuses on software development and engineering; artificial intelligence and machine learning; and cybersecurity and networks, among other topics. The physical sciences subject ranking highlights the universities leading across mathematics and statistics, physics and astronomy, chemistry, geology, environmental, and earth and marine sciences.
While drawing on the same data as the World University Ranking, THE adjusts the methodology for each of the 11 subject areas. For example, the engineering scores focuses more on industrial collaboration and research productivity than, say, the scores for arts and humanities.
