Subject areas for degree projects

The subject area (or more often, field) of the degree project must be specified at the top of the cover of the thesis. Which area to specify depends on the type of degree you are going to take. For the degrees of bachelor/master of science, the main field of study should be specified, for the degrees of bachelor/master of science in engineering, the field of technology should be specified, for the degree of master of science in secondary education, the subject area should be specified. Only the areas listed below may be used, no others. The area should be written in small letters in Swedish and with an initial capital letter on each main word in English.

Degree of Bachelor of Science/Higher Education Diploma

Use the main field of study. There are only two possible fields at KTH: Technology (teknik), Architecture (arkitektur). See the list of main fields of study at KTH.

Degree of Master of Science

Use the main field of study. See the list of main fields of study at KTH. If you are not aware of which main field of study your degree has, look up the degree project course that you are taking the course catalogue, and check which main field of study it belongs to.

Degree of Bachelor/Master of Science in Engineering

Use the field of technology. The field of technology is the field that is specified in the official name of the programme, right after "Degree programme in", for example Computer Science and Engineering or Engineering Mathematics. See the list of all programmes.

Master of Science in Engineering and in Education (CLGYM)

Use the subject area that best describes the content of the degree project:

Technology and Learning (teknik och lärande)
Mathematics and Learning (matematik och lärande)
Physics and Learning (fysik och lärande)
Chemistry and Learning (kemi och lärande)

Degree of Master of Architecture

Use the main field of study Architecture (arkitektur)

Degree of Master of Science in Secondary Education

Use the subject area that best describes the content of the degree project:

Technology and Learning (teknik och lärande)
Mathematics and Learning (matematik och lärande)
Physics and Learning (fysik och lärande)
Chemistry and Learning (kemi och lärande)
Technology (teknik)

KPU (supplementary teacher education)

Use the area Subject-Based Teaching and Learning (ämnesdidaktik)

Both Degree of Master of Science in Engineering and Degree of Master of Science

For a degree project thesis that is used both in a Degree of Master of Science in Engineering and in a Degree of Master of Science, both the field of technology and main field of study should be specified, unless the names of these fields are the same.
