For providers

For providers of topics for Degree projects at CSC, KT

The degree project or "exjobb" is the "crowning glory" of the education where the student integrates knowledge from different courses in order to treat a relatively large problem.

What is an exjobb at CSC?

All exjobbs at KTH are examined by a school/department – in this case by the School for computer science and communication. But most exjobbs examined by CSC treat a problem encountered in an external company or organization – the topic provider. The topic provider may be a large company, a small company, an organization or a public authority in the Stockholm area, in the rest of Sweden or abroad.

What is a suitable topic

The exjobb should treat an interesting problem from the subject area. The master's students (including civilingenjör) make individual exjobbs of 30 credits (one semester). The focus should be investigation and analysis of the problem. The solution should be of interest not only to the provider of the project.

En exjobb rarely results in a finished product, but it is common that the student suggests how a problem may be solved and makes some preliminary tests.

Problems may be theoretical or more practical/experimental. Some involve refining methods or algorithms already being used whereas others involve new methods or new technology.

It must be possible to delimit the problem so that it is possible to treat in 20 weeks for a master´s degree or 10 weeks for a bachelor´s degree. This time is including literature studies of the field, participation in some seminars and the writing of a scientific report.

A study of some finished reports from our report lists may give ideas as to what may be suitable. All reports are public.

There is a short paper written for providers of exjobb describing what an exjobb is and how it fits in the education at KTH.

Announcing your project

It is up to the student to find a suitable project. So students look around. If you have a project that you think is suitable you may announce it on your web pages, labor market days etc. You may also announce it on the swedish national exjobb pool site. If you want us to announce it on the CSC pages, please read the contact page on the menu on the left to find out whom to contact

Exjobb agreement

A formal agreement can be written and signed by CSC, the provider of the topic and the student. In this agreement the responsibilities of the different parties are explained. Form for the agreement.
